John Albright - Chairman of the Board
Mr. Albright has been Managing Partner of J.L. Albright Venture Partners Inc. since 1996. Prior to founding J.L. Albright Venture Partners in 1996, Mr. Albright held senior positions with Jefferson Partners, First City Capital Markets and Central Capital Corporation. During his tenure in the venture capital and merchant banking business, Mr. Albright gained extensive experience assisting entrepreneurs and managers with shaping their vision and capital plans into successful long term growth programs which typically involved an aggressive acquisition and financing strategy. Mr. Albright has a history of assisting entrepreneurial companies through significant growth and eventually to the public markets. His ability to work with and advise senior management of investee companies, as well as his skills in filling supporting roles where existing management lack the experience or skill set, has been vital to the success of past investments. Mr. Albright holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the Schulich School of Business at York University. John Albright is presently a director of Fun Technologies Inc., Q9 Networks Inc., and Nuvo Network Management.
Elaine Kunda - Director; President and Chief Executive Officer
An experienced senior executive with an extensive leadership background and specialized skills involving the Internet, sales, and marketing sectors, Elaine Kunda has held key positions with several leading Canadian companies prior to joining ZipLocal in 2006. For a seven year period starting in 1999, Ms. Kunda held a series of senior executive roles within the Torstar Corporation, including Managing Director of toronto.com and Director of New Media within the company's Business Ventures division. She also worked as Business Development Manager for Grey Interactive, a division of Grey Advertising.
Jonathan Ehrlich - Director
Mr. Ehrlich is the President and COO of Communicate Inc, an Internet commerce and media company. Prior to joining Communicate, Mr. Ehrlich was the Executive Vice President of Online at Indigo Books & Music Inc. ("Indigo"), Canada's largest book retailer. Prior to joining Indigo, Mr. Ehrlich founded Utah Street Partners ("Utah Street") in April 2002. Utah Street sourced, investigated and funded companies in partnership with venture and private equity firms. Prior to Utah Street, from Oct 1998 to January 2002, Mr Ehrlich conceptualized, co-founded and launched Mobshop, the world's first and leading company providing demand aggregation technology and services. As Vice-President of Marketing, Mr. Ehrlich was a member of the executive team that raised over $49,000,000 in venture-backed financing from technology investors. Prior to co-founding Mobshop, Mr. Ehrlich was the Director of Business Development for Cyberplex, an Internet Professional Services firm, from July 1996 to October 1998. Mr. Ehrlich's previous experience also includes several years at MacLaren McCann advertising (November 1991 - August 1994). Mr. Ehrlich holds an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business (1996) and a B.A in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario.
Timothy M. Gould - Director
Mr. Gould is President of Gould Leasing Ltd., a lease finance company specializing for the past 19 years in lending to a wide variety of emerging Canadian businesses. Gould Leasing previously provided debt financing to the Company. Before establishing Gould Leasing, Mr. Gould spent 10 years with Scotia McLeod as an investment representative. He is currently a member of the board of the Foundation of The Canadian Paraplegic Association of Ontario. Mr. Gould served as a director of Red Media (subsequently redCity Search Company Inc.) since May 2003 and continued as a director following the amalgamation of redCity Search Company Inc. and Zip411 Enterprises Inc. (now ZipLocal Inc.).
Perry N. Dellelce - Director
Perry Dellelce is a founder and partner at Wildeboer Dellelce LLP, a boutique business law firm whose practice is focused on securities, corporate finance, and tax law matters. Mr. Dellelce has a BA from the University of Western Ontario (1985), an MBA from the University of Notre Dame (1987), and an LLB from the University of Ottawa (1990). Mr. Dellelce served as a director of Red Media (subsequently redCity Search Company Inc.) since its founding in February 2003 and continued as a director following the amalgamation of redCity Search Company Inc. and Zip411 Enterprises Inc. (now ZipLocal Inc.). Mr. Dellelce currently serves on the boards of directors of Claymore Capital Management Inc., a private equity fund focused on work-out or turn-around situations, and Bradmer Pharmaceuticals Inc., a publicly traded company that develops drugs for cancer therapy. Mr. Dellelce's community involvement includes: the President's Council of the University of Western Ontario; the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association of the University of Western Ontario; the Business Advisory Council of the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame; the Executive Education Advisory Council of the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame; Campaign Cabinet of the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law; Entrepreneurship Advisory Board of the Rotman School of Management of the University of Toronto; Development Steering Committee of the Board of Trustees of the Art Gallery of Ontario; and board of directors of The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, Toronto, Ontario.
Owen B. Menzel - Director
Mr. Menzel has been providing consulting services through his firm, Savant Consulting, since December 2000. Presently, he is a partner in and Chief Financial Officer of PWM Capital, a full service investment dealer. In addition, Mr. Menzel was President and Chief Financial Officer of Monarch Delaney Financial Partners Inc. from July 2002 to March 2004. He was Chief Financial Officer of Microforum Inc. from December 2000 to September 2001. From December 1999 to September 2000, Mr. Menzel was Chief Financial Officer of CamVec Corporation; and from February 1998 to June 1999, he was Chief Financial Officer of C.M. Oliver Inc. Mr. Menzel was a founder of one of ZipLocal's predecessors, First One Capital Inc. and continued as a director following the amalgamation. Mr Menzel, is a CA and CPA and was with Ernst & Young from 1970 to 1996 - 16 years as a partner. He brings this background to his role as Director and Chairman of ZipLocal's Audit Committee.
Peter Schwartz - Director
Peter J. Schwartz is President of Laurence Capital Corporation (LCC), a Waterloo-based merchant bank. LCC manages two investment funds, Laurence Capital Fund I and Laurence Capital Fund II and provides capital and stewardship to Canadian growth companies. LCC and the Laurence group of companies, which includes Laurence Financial Services Corp., a vertical market lender to technology and transportation companies and Laurence Development LP, a diversified real estate development company, have assets under management totalling $110 million.
Peter is the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Descartes Systems Group Inc. (Nasdaq: DSGX) (TSX: DSG) a software-as-a-service (SaaS) company founded in 1981. Descartes is developing the world's largest multimodal electronic logistics messaging network, called the Global Logistics Network or GLN. Descartes' on-demand GLN processes more than a million messages every day for companies with transport operations. Mr. Schwartz joined Descartes in 1990 and has held positions of increasing responsibility culminating in his appointment as a member of the Board of Directors and CEO in 1995 and Chairman of the Board in 1997. During Peter's tenure revenue grew from $1 million to over $80 million dollars. The company is based in Waterloo, Ontario, with operations in Ottawa, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C. and Stockholm.
Mr. Schwartz holds an HBA from the University of Western Ontario. He currently sits on the advisory board for JLA Ventures, Automated Benefits Corp. (AUT.V), and Tech Capital Partners. He is a director of RedCity Search Company (RDC.V), Covarity Inc., the Stratford Chef School and is Chairman of WCP Holdings Inc. Mr. Schwartz has been a member of the Young Presidents Organization since 1996, and was chosen as one of The Financial Post's Top 40 under 40 in 1998.
